How My Emotional Health Affects My Physical Health

This giveaway is now closed - winner to be announced soon!
This is sponsored content from BlogHer and Crystal Light.

And this week, let's go deeper, shall we?  I've had some emotional issues over the years.  I've talked about them from time to time.  And one thing I've noticed in the midst of them is that my ups and downs show.  And not just as tears on my shoulders, but outwardly.  I gain weight.  I get sluggish.  I get sick more often.  A friend and I recently were discussing just how much the emotional does affect the physical.

But here's the upside to all this.  Your physical?  It can directly affect your emotional as well.  I know when I'm walking and exercising that I feel better.  I know when I'm eating better and drinking more water that I feel better.  I know that I don't have to be a victim of my circumstances, that I can take control and change the outcome.

I can feel better.  I can look better.  It's just a matter of deciding.  And following through.  I've done it before.  I know I can do it again.

Want to win $100? Tell me in the comments here how your emotional health affects your physical health, at the end of the month we'll take all the comments from all 4 posts and randomly draw one winner from them.  And then be sure to check out the BlogHer round-up page for six more chances to win $100 or, even better, the $1,000 grand prize!  That's right, I said $1,000.

Official contest rules are here.

  1. When I'm stressed, I don't feel well. This week my kids are starting school and I'm nervous for them. I've been up since 4:30 this morning and I've gone to the bathroom 4 times! I feel sick to my stomach.

I want to get past this nervousness and stress and just feel better.

  2. You are exactly right! We know how we CAN feel and look better, we just need to make the right decision and follow through. I find that I get way off track through the summer months and look forward to getting back into our schooling routine which will get me back to walking daily. That alone will keep me eating better, drinking more water, and reduce my stress levels by a BUNCH!

You can do it, too, Suzanne!

    Blessings,
    Tammy ~@~

  4. If I don't eat well, I get sluggish and don't want to exercise.
when I don't eat well, I don't crave water and I don't want to exercise.
when I don't drink enough water, I get a headache. then I certainly won't exercise.

when I exercise, I want to eat well.
when I exercise, I crave water and drink abundantly.
when I exercise, I feel more lively and spirited.
when I exercise, I think more clearly and make better choices.

even though I know all that, it's still a challenge for me. and exactly what you said--a conscious choice I need to make EVERY day.

  5. ditto to Nicole! My daily walks are my sanity saver all around. I cope better, eat better, and have better pep in my attitude. I let my walks slide out of my schedule, and it is amazing how quickly I feel sluggish and shlumpy (ha, is that a word?) I become less patient and less interactive w/ the kids...
Of course, besides my walk, my best motto is that I am not my children's garbage disposal. I have to be aware of not eating their last left over bites, or not eat that lunch they asked for then decided they didn't want (does that happen to anyone else?). Great post... I think you are a doll. =)

  6. It's definately a chicken or the egg thing. I know when I have a combo of both exercise and eating right that I have soo much more energy and my family reaps the reward of my less cranky self. :)

  7. Emotional stress definitely affects me physically. I was very stressed and overwhelmed this last week with our first baby's arrival right around the corner. My Saturday morning "sleeping in" lasted until 12:30pm! I have definitely realized that I need to make sure to take some down time each day to relax and forget about my "to-do" list.

  8. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my emotions do have an affect on my body. When I'm feeling low my pain threshold is lower and I hurt more. Swimming is a great way for me to relax and feel better mentally and physically. Thanks for the contest.

  9. I have chronic tmj and I have to exercise and drink plenty of fluids! If I don't, I am in pain! When you don't take care of your body, it has a way of turning on you!

    Thanks for the contest!

  11. I do skip meals from time to time when I'm down or busy. However I always remember to drink water regardless of mood.
